Carnivale Comedy

1 NIGHT – 2 KIWIS – A SWAGFUL OF AUSSIES – 1000 LAUGHS

Port Douglas, 7th May, 2014 – The Big Laugh is back for Port Douglas Carnivale 2014 and to kick off its international comedy series will be two of New Zealand’s funniest – Jeremy Elwood and Michelle A’Court on Friday, May 23.

Event organiser Melinda Norris of Palace Marquees said both comedians had carved out stellar careers  not only in their respective country but also around the world and would bring a lot to the Big Laugh international comedy series.

“This year’s Big Laugh is shaping up to be the biggest and best ever. We have had to move the event to QT Resort after out-growing the Sugar Wharf venue in just three years.”

Ms Norris said Michele A’Court is a stand-up comedian, actor and freelance writer and a justified winner of “New Zealand Comedienne of the Decade” at the 2010 NZ Comedy Guild Awards.

“You can’t turn on a TV or radio, or open a newspaper or magazine in New Zealand without finding her there.

“Her international experience as a stand-up comedian includes festivals in Edinburgh, Melbourne and Adelaide, and recent club gigs in Las Vegas, San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto,” she said.

Jeremy Elwood is also one of New Zealand’s most respected, and most travelled comedians.

“A regular on “7Days” and “The Panel”, New Zealand’s highest rating TV comedy show and radio hour respectively, Jeremy has headlined comedy clubs and performed at festivals worldwide.

“I am confident audiences are going to love these two. In the last two years Jeremy alone has performed in Australia, Singapore, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Vancouver and Papua New Guinea.”
Ms Norris said there was also a last minute addition to the comedy line-up with a local talent returning to the stage.

“Locals are in for a real treat with his stand-up, but we are keeping who it is under wraps for now. It is fantastic that he has been able to return and locals should get a real kick out of it.”

Port Douglas Carnivale general manager Roy Weavers said the Big Laugh had fast become one of the most popular annual Carnivale events.

“We are excited to welcome The Big Laugh back in 2014 and are looking forward to all the action at QT Resort on Friday,” he said.
