SCREAMING JETS ADDS STAR POWER TO FOOD, WINE & A TASTE OF PORT

Port Douglas, 23rd May, 2014 – Celebrate the last night of Port Douglas Carnivale with Australian gods of rock at Food, Wine & A Taste of Port on Saturday, May 24.

Port Douglas Carnivale general manager Roy Weavers said it was a privilege to have the Screaming Jets in Port Douglas for one of the closing events of the 10-day festival.
“Events NQ have once again pulled out all the stops for an amazing outdoor event in Rex Smeal Park.”

Mr Weavers said they were hoping for crowds in excess of 1500 people on the night.
“This is one of the highlight events of Carnivale, and for the first time this is being held on the second weekend and forms an integral part of the entire food event offering from Friday to Sunday.”

Events NQ spokesperson and event manager Danielle Fischer said it was only fitting to have Australian rock gods Screaming Jets on the night, which has been appropriately themed Gods of the Galaxy.

The Screaming Jets was formed in Newcastle in 1989 by front man Dave Gleeson on vocals, Grant Walmsley on guitar and Paul Woseen on bass guitar and backing vocals. The band’s three albums peaked in the top five in ARIA charts.

“It is always a lot of fun when people come along and dress up and we are expecting some fantastic costumes this year,” she said.

“Not only do we have the Screaming Jets, Hip 2 Soul and the Montgomery Brothers will also bring their own unique performances to the stage,” she said.

“The accent is on party, and Hip 2 Soul deliver every time, with lead vocalist/front man A.D. notorious for whipping audiences into a frenzy with his larger-than-life stage presence.

“The Montgomery Brothers also take their classic, timeless inspirations and transform them into a music experience that will entertain even the most diverse audiences.”

Food will be catered by Port Douglas Catering and Events and will include Mediterranean-style picnic packs, fresh prawns and shucked oysters, Barramundi spring rolls, arancini, tacos, satay, curries, gourmet pizzas, barbecued lamb, battered reef fish, the great Aussie steak sandwich, and Thai-inspired soft shell mud crab.

“There will also be sensational desserts and cheese. A well-staffed long bar, dedicated to ensuring queues are at an absolute minimum, will serve cocktails, beer and wine,” Ms Fischer added.
Tickets are $69 and can be purchased online at www.foodandwinenq.com.au.
