Gourmets Be Quick – Carnivale’s Longest Lunch Almost Full

Four years of superb outdoor waterfront dining with matching wines has seen the tickets to this year’s Longest Lunch snapped up in just three weeks.

Craig Squire, owner of Ochre Restaurant & Catering and award-winning pioneer of Australia’s modern cuisine, said all available tickets had now been sold for the May 21 event.

“People want to get in pretty soon. Tickets were on sale for just under one month and have mostly been snapped up by repeat customers bringing more friends,” Craig said.

“The ‘Longest Lunch Legends’, a bunch of people from Port, have booked as a group so they can be seated together. There are also groups from Brisbane and a group of 12 from Melbourne returning and bringing more friends.”

The four-course 2021 Longest Lunch plated menu with matching wines aims to showcase the best of local and Australian produce.

It features Salmon Tiradito, a Japanese-inspired sashimi-style Peruvian dish finished with native finger lime, and twice-xooked Tablelands’ Pork Belly with native Davidson plum jam, an Ochre Restaurant signature dish.

The main is premium Tablelands’ Morganbury beef tenderloin with North African flavours and finished with a Daintree vanilla and Wattle seed glaze.

The menu is completed with a special dessert – Craig’s tropical take on Australia’s dessert darling, the trifle. Gallo and Mungalli cheese and seasonal fruit will also be available.

Guests will be seated at one long sheltered table at Port Douglas’ Rex Smeal Park. A cash bar will also be operating and cocktails will be available. The lunch beverage package concludes at 3.30pm.

The event runs from 12.30pm until 5.30pm, providing a seamless transition to stroll into town for the Carnivale street parade.

Spiegeltent performers and artists, and DJ Bart will provide entertainment and Wolf Lane Distillery will host a gin tasting. Lawn games will also be laid out for more social fun.
