Run Cuts A Dash at Carnivale

A picturesque beach run will meet all-terrain cross country in the Douglas Dash, with registrations now open for the popular running event.

The Douglas Dash is a 5km run taking in Four Mile Beach, and is likely to attract both serious sprinters and recreational runners.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said with a 7am start, this urban trail event would give participants the best start to their day with times recorded, medals on offer and a ‘party in paradise’ to enjoy later on.

“There are some big bragging rights in winning this event. The times are very competitive but we’re looking forward to someone turning up and smashing records.”

Times to beat are 22.09 minutes for men and 28.34 minutes for women and the field is likely to be just as competitive this year.

With the start and finish line at Rex Smeal Park, the run also includes sections of Four Mile Beach and the Flagstaff Hill walking trail.

The event is professionally run by Dynamic Running and costs $15 with discounts for groups and junior runners.

Organisers are looking for a sponsor to come on board and help with the Douglas Dash, aligning themselves with an event appealing to serious racers, fun runners and give-it-a-go families.

“The Douglas Dash is set to become an iconic part of Carnivale combining one of the most beautiful courses in the world with excitement of Port Douglas Carnivale in town,” Mayor Kerr added.

The Douglas Dash is on Saturday May 22, with the race start scheduled for 7am. To register go to www.carnivale.com.au
