LINE UP CONFIRMED FOR STREET ART & MUSIC FESTIVAL

Port Douglas, 7th May, 2014 – A talented line up of theatre and musical performers will take part in Port Douglas Carnivale’s inaugural Port Village Street Art and Music Festival.

Port Douglas Carnivale general manager Roy Weavers said the line up of entertainment was fantastic with more than 50 acts set to entertain crowds on Macrossan Street outside Port Village Shopping Centre from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23 before the live decider on Saturday, May 24.

Starting at 11am and running until 8pm each weekday, Mr Weavers said he had been blown away by the support from the local arts community.

“We wanted an event that would keep the Carnivale atmosphere alive during the week and we have certainly achieved this with the help of event coordinator Nicole Carnaby from the Tropical North Theatre Company who has done a fantastic job rallying everyone together.

“We are really excited to introduce this new event and thrilled that the Port Village Shopping Centre has come on board to support the festival in this way.”

All performers will have the chance to compete for the title of Carnivale 2014 Street Performer of the Year, with the title-holder winning a trophy and $1000 cash and the runner-ups receiving a medal, as well as a possible cash prize.

“People may be surprised to discover the depth of talent hidden around Far North Queensland, and this is such a great platform for them to get out and show us what they have.”

Some of the performers include Te Iria Ketu, James Martin and his mini bike stunts, Timber & Wood, Omid Master, magic clown Flip Ripley, Rochelle & Sisters of the Kashmir Oasis, and Benny & The Clones.

The Street Art and Music Festival adds to already busy event-filled week, which includes AFL Under Lights, Modele 14, the Big Laugh as well as a theatrical performance at The Clink Theatre.
