The Paramour Cabaret is delivering a packed program of live entertainment in its first appearance at Port Douglas Carnivale, opening on Friday, 15 May.
The line up in the Paramour Big Top offers something for everyone, from a family friendly stage hypnotist to dazzling burlesque, laugh-out-loud comedy, activities specifically designed for younger audiences and the signature comedy cabaret variety show Paramour Cabaret is known for.
The entertainment program kicks off with the Opening Night Launch Party on 15 May, where Carnivale-goers can expect a DJ and circus-style roving performers, along with a few surprises, designed to dial up the party vibe.
Wes Evans, co-owner of Cairns-based The Paramour Cabaret, said he was delighted to be delivering the entertainment this year.
“We are ready to bring the party,” Evans said. “We have brought the tent to Port Douglas before and it was received really well, but this time, along with the opening night event, we are bringing an all-new cabaret show, with its debut at Carnivale.”
Happy Hour is an all-new, adult-oriented show (18+) running from May 21-24. Hosted by washed-out, slightly unhinged cabaret character Sylvester Valentine, with the entire performance staged in-the-round.
“It’s all about having fun and leaving your inhibitions at the door,” said Evans. “It’s really interactive, so audience members should come along with their dance shoes on, ready to be up and dancing right off the bat.”
Beyond Happy Hour, lovers of glamour and tease can take in Barefoot & Burlesque, a 60-minute show on May 16 and 17 that blends artistry and sensuality, delivered by world-class performers.
Other programming includes a one-night-only stand-up comedy night and a live hypnotist show. Also, new to the program, Blast Lab will bring a high-energy, family-friendly science show to the Paramour Big Top on Saturday 16 May and Sunday 17 May.
Created for curious kids and families, the show combines live experiments, audience participation and fast-paced demonstrations, with bubbling potions, flying objects and explosive reactions forming part of the experience.
Evans said the aim was to provide a variety of entertainment options so Carnivale attendees could be entertained in multiple ways across the duration of the event.
