CRACKING SUPPORT FOR CARNIVALE’S FIREWORKS DISPLAY

Port Douglas, 17th April, 2014 – Port Douglas Carnivale will kick off with a bang with local businesses getting behind the annual colourful fireworks display raising a combined $9500.

Port Douglas Carnivale general manager Roy Weavers said many people were not aware that it was actually the town’s business owners that paid for the fireworks that take centre stage after the Macrossan Street Parade on the opening Friday of Carnivale.

He said driving this support was Rhys Bawden, owner of Salsa Bar & Grill.

“With the help of Salsa Bar & Grill, Port Douglas Carnivale now has $9500 for our annual fireworks display – this is our best year yet,” Mr Weavers said.

Big contributors included the Courthouse Hotel who donated $2000, Salsa Bar & Grill
Salsa who donated $1000 plus their time and administration support to gather the donations, as well as By the Sea Apartments and The Combined Club who also each gave $1000.

Mr Bawden said each year they continued to be humbled by the generous donations coming forth from local businesses, many who have no direct link with the fireworks.

“It is admirable to see these businesses digging deep time and time again as they understand the impact a fantastic family event like Carnivale has on the whole community.”

“Each year we ask our friends of the business community to help out with donations and they do, every time, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Other contributors included the Ramada Resort, Sassi Cucina, The Central Hotel, Quicksilver Reef Cruises, The Mediterrainean, A Tropical Nite, Daintree Discovery Tours, Wicked Willies, Paddys Irish Bar, Rattle & Hum, Blue Dive, Harrisons Restaurant and Buccini Restaurant.
