Munch with the Bunch at the Longest Lunch

Everyone should be out to lunch on May 24.

It’s the date of Port Douglas Carnivale’s popular indulgent shared feast – the Longest Lunch.

The long-table dining extravaganza champions the very best of local produce prepared by award winning chefs and accompanied by superb beers and wines in a stunning location.

And this year the Longest Lunch will be even longer and more pleasurable with entertainment and hospitality continuing into the evening so guests can make a seamless transition to other events.

For the third year the Longest Lunch will be catered by Ochre owner and executive chef Craig Squire.

Squire and Ochre will celebrate Carnivale 2019’s Silver and Sunshine theme with a menu that reflects the shining quality of local produce and the bounties of this climatically-gifted region.

His contemporary Australian menu is a blend of classic dishes and modern cuisine with a dash of native ingredients. The first course is barramundi numus with pickled mango, coconut and sunrise lime.

This will be followed by Cajun tuna and prawn with smoked tomato and avocado salad.

Diners can then enjoy Morganbury beef tenderloin and braised beef cheek, accompanied by citrus mash, heirloom vegetables, Daintree vanilla and wattle seed jus.

To complete the perfect meal, a dessert of Davidson plum mousse with macadamia pacoca, coconut and lemon myrtle ice cream. A Gallo and Mungalli cheese and seasonal fruit station will be open to tempt diners’ taste buds.

The four-course menu will be complemented by matching wines from De Bortoli and beers from Asahi.

Squire said after successfully organising and catering the event for two years it is a joy to be participating again.

“It’s a wonderful atmosphere in a beautiful setting and we have the opportunity to give people new dishes to try and wines to drink.

“It’s a very special party with the best of the region’s produce, entertainment from the Spiegeltent, a DJ, lawn games and lots of fun.

“This year we have decided to keep the festivities going for a couple more hours with a cash bar and DJ until 5.30pm so people can go from the Longest Lunch to the Street Parade or out to dinner,” Squire said.

The Longest Lunch is on the waterfront at Rex Smeal Park. Moroccan tents are set up to ensure diners are comfortable and the lush, laid back vibe is enhanced by the ridiculously talented Wonderland Spiegeltent performers and local musicians.

The Longest Lunch is an all-weather event and always a sell-out so book early:
